Create the Classic Study

I love that powerful, "classic" study look. You know, the study that portrays warm, dark colors, that is saturated with leather and wooden furnishings, old antique books, and that glass of vintage whiskey or scotch on the desk.

If you are longing to create your own home office and have your heart set on re-creating that beautiful, formal, timeless look, then don't stress because with the right colors and accents you can do it! By incorporating specific elements, furnishings, and accessories you too can have that sexy, powerful study.

Check out Ralph Lauren's study (above). Warm woods, leather furnishings, fireplace, bookcase, and vintage artwork that costs god knows how much. These are elements of that classic study look, which you can do on much more of a budget if you shop around (for instance, instead of wood panelled walls you can simply use warm paint colors).

Specific furnishings and timeless accessories add a powerful statement of class. Important elements you can add could include:
-tufted leather couches, sofas, or ottomans
-wooden aspects such as an antique wooden table, desk, bookcase, cabinets, or shelves
-sleek floor rug
-bold framed artwork (painted portraits really do the trick!) or mirrors
-vintage wood holder for the fireplace
-stack of antique books
-a vintage globe

Want to add some femininity? Try reds, purples, whites, or pale blues for furnishings instead of warm browns, or even animal print or floral accents...

The options are endless when creating your perfect home office. Antique stores, garage sales, and second hand shops can often yield some beautiful vintage treasures, so it does not necessarily have to cost you an arm and a leg! If you want to play around with ideas and colors it is always fantastic to create a mood board. For more information on mood boards click here!
